HANDS-ON TECHNICAL MAINTENANCE PROFESSIONAL REQUIRED IN CENTRAL LONDON

We are assisting a well-established Family Office with the recruitment of a hands-on Technical Maintenance Professional to support the maintenance, upkeep and smooth running of a portfolio of private residences in Central London, together with an office building within the wider property portfolio. This is a practical and varied position suited to someone with a strong understanding of buildings, maintenance and property services, who is confident dealing with issues directly and taking ownership of problems from the moment they arise.

The successful candidate will be someone who is practical by nature and knows what to do when something goes wrong. Whether responding to a leak, electrical issue, heating problem or general building defect, they will be expected to assess the situation quickly, take sensible immediate action to protect the property and its contents, and then determine the appropriate next steps. This could mean isolating a water supply, protecting flooring or furnishings, containing a leak, making an initial diagnosis or arranging the appropriate specialist support.

Reporting into the Head of Estates and the principal, the role will work closely with the relevant specialists to ensure the properties are maintained to an exceptionally high standard. Dealing with contractors and larger refurbishment projects, this is not primarily a contractor or project management role; the emphasis is on practical technical knowledge, reactive and planned maintenance, problem-solving and being a reliable pair of hands within the properties.

Core hours are 9am–6pm Monday to Friday, with some flexibility required to assist with property issues outside these hours when necessary. A full UK driving licence is required. The family has a number of significant properties and future projects within the portfolio, making this an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their experience within a highly private and professional Family Office environment. Familiarity with CDM, technical drawings, BMS, AV and home automation is desired, though not a deal breaker.

DUTIES TO INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Take responsibility for the day-to-day technical maintenance, upkeep and presentation of the family’s residential and office properties
  • Carry out practical inspections and identify maintenance issues, defects and potential problems before they escalate
  • Respond promptly to reactive maintenance issues and emergencies, taking appropriate immediate measures to protect the property, furnishings and contents before arranging further remedial work
  • Use practical knowledge and common sense to assess issues such as leaks, plumbing problems, electrical faults, heating issues, water ingress and general building defects
  • Carry out maintenance and repairs where appropriate, using own practical skills and knowing when a specialist is required
  • Coordinate routine servicing, planned maintenance and specialist trades as required
  • Attend properties regularly and ensure maintenance works are completed to the required standard
  • Support larger refurbishment and improvement projects, assisting with site coordination and monitoring works as required
  • Liaise with contractors, engineers and specialist trades, providing clear information and ensuring issues are followed through to completion
  • Assist with the technical and facilities requirements of the family’s office building
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance, servicing, warranties and relevant property documentation
  • Support the Head of Estates and local management team with property inspections, maintenance planning and general technical matters
  • Ensure properties remain safe, functional and well maintained, with a proactive approach to identifying potential issues
  • Assist with emergency situations and be prepared to respond flexibly when an urgent property issue arises

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Several years’ experience in property maintenance, building maintenance, facilities, construction, engineering or a similar practical environment
  • Experience within private residential, luxury residential, high-end property or heritage environments would be hugely advantageous
  • Strong practical understanding of building fabric, maintenance and basic building services
  • A genuinely hands-on approach, with the ability to investigate problems and take sensible immediate action
  • Good knowledge of common property maintenance issues, including plumbing, heating, electrical, water ingress and general building defects
  • Able to carry out minor repairs and maintenance where appropriate, while recognising when specialist assistance is required
  • Organised and reliable, with good follow-through and the ability to keep track of outstanding maintenance issues
  • Comfortable communicating with contractors, engineers and specialist trades, as well as UHNWI’s
  • Practical, calm and solutions-focused, particularly when dealing with unexpected problems
  • Professional, discreet and trustworthy, with an understanding of working within a private household environment
  • Good IT skills and comfortable maintaining basic maintenance records and documentation
  • Full UK driving licence and right to live and work in the UK
  • Flexible and willing to assist outside normal hours when genuine property emergencies arise
